  • Sundew (Drosera sp.)

Ease to Grow: Easy!
Soil: All-Purpose Mix
Light: Bright indoors, full sun to partial sun outdoors
Water: Consistently moist with mineral-free water

This introductory collection of carnivorous plants is specifically selected for beginners and includes three of the most popular and easy to grow carnivorous plants. The Venus Flytrap is world famous for its actively moving traps. A Pitcher Plant, such as the Purple Pitcher Plant, is very curious with no moving parts but a pit fall trap that catches more insects than most carnivorous plants. Sundews grow a cluster of tentacle-like glistening traps that move slowly to snarl and engulf their prey.

These temperate, North American natives all grow in the same conditions, and are some of the easier carnivorous plants. Outdoor growing is ideal. If potted, they will do nicely in a small tray on a well-lit window sill during active growing months. During winter months plants should be allowed dormancy and will resume vigorous trap production come spring.

You select the size: small, medium, large, when available. For size and care information refer to the specific plant pages.

If ordered during winter months, plants may be sent that are dormant rhizomes, corms or hibernacula, trimmed of old traps. They will be true to size, but may not be showing their full forms. Given good growing conditions, they will emerge true to the size descriptions.

Terrarium kit carnivorous plants are shipped bare-root, wrapped in damp sphagnum moss. Photographs are representative of species, not the plants shipped.

Update from Previous 2 Star Review

I had previously left a 2 Star on this purchase due to my disappointment in receiving what I concluded was actually a ‘Small’ starter set instead of the ‘Medium’ starter set I had chosen. I have seen other reviews that echoed my opinion. Since my first review, I have received a very nice email from Colin Szesze who explained the sizing criteria for their plants. This information is actually on their webpage….I just failed to read all of the information. As for my belief that my one plant was dead…..I was assured of the heartiness and dormancy.
I apology for jumping to conclusions. I was informed by another person that these plants may look a little puny for a couple of weeks but start perking right up. I do apologize to this company for being hasty and I hope this update will help clarify some things.

Arrived in ok shape but didn’t like the journey

Pitcher plant is thriving. Have lost 6 of 7 flytraps, they one by one started turning black within 24hours of potting as per the instructions. Sundew lost 3 of the 5 arms within a couple of days as well; but it’s sprouting a new one so maybe it’ll pull through.

Arrived dead

All of my plants on arrival were completely dry and brown, I’m very displeased. I wouldn’t buy from this company again. I immediately put them in water and then planted them in peat moss soil like I read they like. It was too late, they arrived so dead .

Great plants!

The plants were very small but were in great shape and packaged very well. They are already growing.
