One of the most fascinating aspects of the Venus Flytrap is the fact that it catches insects. How does it do it? In this inquiry-based laboratory investigation students explore the mechanism of trap closure. Most enthusiasts know that the trigger hairs have to be touched twice inorder to close, but does it make a difference on the timing between the two touches? This is a ready-to-use activity to find out. 

Purpose: to determine if trigger timing affects the speed of Venus Flytrap closure.
Materials: Venus Flytrap plants, pencil, stopwatch
