The Giant Pink Sundew or Drosera capillaris Giant (sometimes called the Long Arm Pink Sundew) is a larger, taller, more upright form of the Pink Sundew, similar to D. intermedia, and subtropical in habit. It is a medium-size sundew with extended petioles, rounded traps, and numerous red sticky tentacles. Summer growth produces petioles over 1.5" with shorter winter growth. It's particular charm comes from its size, pink flowers and habit of growing throughout the Winter if kept warm and bright. It prefers open and sunny, wet savannahs with peaty or sandy-peaty soils. It does not form a winter hibernacula (resting bud). The small flowers are generally pink, but may be white, on scapes with multiple blossoms. It flowers from May to August and frequently produce abundant seeds, giving it a nice spreading habitat. Seeds may be stored cool and dry without stratification (cold-wet period). The Giant Form is native to more southern locations than its typical form. Drosera capillaris - Giant is an ideal delight in a terrarium, and a great companion in the collection or bog garden. This selection comes from seed, and will show some natural variations. For maximum effect plant use multiple plants in a 6" pot.
