Sarracenia x Red Dixie is a fast growing charmer. The dark red pitchers shine with white areoles. The pitchers are laced with fine dark red veins on a dark red background, and covered with distinct fine hairs creating a velvety appearance. The pitcher tops are slightly swollen and the narrow hood arches over the trap opening. This keeps out rain and prevents flopping. Nectar glands around the lip attract many insects. It is very vigorous and readily forms dense colonies. It prefers open, sunny boggy conditions, and holds its color into the frost. The small flowers are very numerous, red and spicy fragrant. They generally bloom mid-season. Red Dixie will add rich interest in your bog garden, collection or tall terrarium. Red Dixie is from the Horticultural Program at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
