Drosera capillaris or Pink Sundew is a small, low-lying sundew with rounded traps, and numerous red sticky tentacles. It's particular charm comes from its pink flowers and habit of growing throughout the Winter if kept warm and bright. It prefers open and sunny, wet savannahs with peaty or sandy-peaty soils. It does not form a winter hibernacula (resting bud). The small flowers are generally pink, but may be white, on scapes with multiple blossoms. It flowers from May to August and frequently produce abundant seeds, giving it a nice spreading habitat. Seeds may be stored cool and dry without stratification (cold-wet period). It is very wide-spread throughout the southern Coastal Plain. There is a Giant Form native to more southern locations. Drosera capillaris is an ideal delight in a terrarium, and a great companion in the collection or bog garden. This selection comes from seed, and will show some natural variations.
Seed Packs are fresh harvested in the Fall, and stored refrigerated. Seed count is approximate, but reliable.
Note: All seeds are produced from open pollination within our collection. Some cross pollination among different cultivars may occur. Growing carnivorous plants from seeds is best suited for the experienced and patient grower. See our webpage on Growing CPs from Seeds.
