Ease to Grow: Difficult
Dormancy: No
Native Range: Lowlands of Borneo
Zones: 12-13 (11-13)

Nepenthes northiana is spectacular with its scalloped and striped peristome. Pitchers are large, with red splotches on a yellow green background.  N. northiana is an atypical Nepenthes by being lithophyte growing on limestone rock walls. It is particularly prone to transplant shock, which can be eased with high humidity. Reduce watering in winter. It is a challenging house plant sensitive to humidity. It is excellent in the terrarium, and shaded greenhouse. It can grow quite large.

Unless size specifies "potted", plants are shipped bare-root, wrapped in damp sphagnum moss. Photographs are representative of species, and not the specific plant shipped.

Height: 18+"
Plant Type: Perennial, Tropical - Lowland
Soil: Live Sphagnum Moss or Nepenthes Mix with lime
Light: Medium Bright indirect indoors, filtered to partial sun outdoors
Use: Challenging house plant for the sunroom , but does well in a terrarium or shaded greenhouse.
