Ease to Grow: Easy
Dormancy: Recommended
Native Range: Peat Bogs of Eastern and Northern North America
Zones: 2-7 (2-8)

The Red Apache Pitcher Plant is low growing with short, stout traps, often showing burgundy color and red veins in full sun. In the winter it frequently turns a gorgeous deep reddish purple color. The external pitcher surface is waxy and feels hard to the touch. It tends to clump and form colonies, about 4+ feet across. Traps hold their color through the winter and for nearly 2 years. It is a fragrant, early spring bloomer, growing deep red blossoms on 12 inch scapes that flower well before the new traps develop. Flower stalks and sepals last through the year, resembling green daffodils. It prefers mild summers and cold winters. Red Apache is a new unofficial cultivar.

Plants shipped bare-root, wrapped in damp sphagnum. In it's dormant season, it will be shipped as a dormant rhizome with trimmed off pitchers. Photographs are representative of the cultivar, and not the plants shipped.

Height: 4" - 8"
Plant Type: Perennial, cold temperate
Soil: Upper Bog Mix or All Purpose Mix
Light: Bright to partial bright indoors, full sun to partial sun outdoors
Use: Grows well in the bog garden, greenhouse and indoors. It is excellent for terrariums.

Slower Recovery But Happy Now

I wanted to wait to see how these new hybrid's did in the transition of replanting.
So far they're growing and happy.
I got these because the Carolina Yellow Jacket is hard to get right now.
However, these are towing the rope rather well. grouped with Flytraps, they are already working hard.
Look good too.
Let me be more clear... I NEVER claim a new plant is 5 stars. NEVER, they have no track record.
This is different. This cross Breed plant is eating fly's and no-see-ums.

No pesticides, Win
Inhales CO2, Win
Exhales O2, Win
Few things pay you back in such a way.

Stunner

Beautiful plant worth it even as an annual. Didn't really have a brilliant red color until September. Fingers crossed it will survive zone 7
