The Steven's Pitcher Plant, Sarracenia x stevensii is a tall southern naturally occurring hybrid pitcher plant. It has reddish-pink flushed pitchers with pink areoles (windows) that dominate the upper portions of the tubes. It typically produces many more pitchers than its parent S. leucophylla. Similar to S. x Juthatip Soper, but with narrower, shorter pitchers. It attracts many flying insects, particularly wasps. S. x stevensii has two trap seasons, producing a few nice traps in the Spring, but a burst of large vigorous traps in the Fall, when it is very showy and other pitcher plants dwindle. It prefers open, sunny, damp conditions, but tolerates semi-dry ones. Trumpets tolerate light frost. The showy flowers are red, and mildly fragrant. They generally bloom from April to May before the pitchers fully develop. Appearing white from a distance, these plants are a wonderful accent or spectacular group display in the bog garden. This selection comes from seed, and will show some natural variations.

Though the exact parentage of this Dutch hybrid is uncertain, it is likely S. rubra gulfensis x leucophylla.

Plants are shipped bare-root, wrapped in damp sphagnum moss. In it's dormant season, it will be shipped as a dormant rhizome with trimmed off pitchers. Photographs are representative of the hybrid, and not the specific plant shipped.

Height: 8" - 28"
Plant Type: Perennial, temperate
Soil: Upper Bog Mix or General CP Mix
Light: Bright indoors, full sun to partial sun outdoors
Use: Grows well in the bog garden, greenhouse and indoors. It is an excellent accent plant.

Pretty disappointed on how these plants were crushed into a tiny box. The pitchers were all folded about 3x and squashed into a plastic bag totally destroyed by whoever packed them. This had nothing to do with the shipping process. In the past, I get much smaller plants than the size ordered and I notice they will cut off all the new growth to save on packaging and then blame it on dormancy. Not to mention the shipping is overpriced. Safe to say, I will never order again from people who don't really care about the health of the plant and rather snip away instead of use the proper size box.
