Heliamphora heterodoxa or the Distinct Sun Pitcher is medium height, with yellow-green urn-shaped pitchers and large vibrant red helmet nectar spoons. The hip-shaped traps have a distinctive bright red edge, midrib and ala (wing), with a v-shaped slit in the trap opening. They are slightly sweet in fragrance. H. heterodoxa divides regularly and forms nice colonies. The scent-less bell-shaped flowers are yellow, green and white. They bloom anytime during the year. In cultivation, these plant do well in a terrarium in an air-conditioned room with bright indirect light. Fluorescent plant lights with timers on 14 hours/day, with seasonal variations are recommended. Plants often show nice red coloration on the inside and outside with red nectar spoons. These are relatively easy to grow, and tolerate a wide range of conditions. This clone is from the Gran Sabana tepui.
