Drosera x California Sunset is a vigorous sundew cross of Drosera filiformis filiformis x tracyi. It is among the largest of all the North American sundews, and has faint rosy red colored tentacles. It is slightly smaller than either of its parents. It is quite noticeable from a distance and appears to shine reddish-pink. It gets a lot of attention at the Nursery. It prefers open, sunny bog conditions and does not grow in Sphagnum Moss. It can tolerate drier conditions than most sundews, and competes well with other non-carnivorous plants. It emerges late in the Spring and lasts throughout the Summer and Fall. It forms a large sturdy winter hibernacula (resting bud), which is best pushed down to the surface in early Spring for best growth. The numerous flowers are pink on tall scapes. It flowers from May to June. For maximum effect plant use multiple plants in a 6" pot. It was developed but Joseph A. Mazrimas in 1980.

Plants are shipped bare-root, wrapped in damp sphagnum moss. In it's dormant season, it will be shipped as a dormant hibernaculum. Photographs are representative of species, and not the specific plant shipped.

Nice plant for size ordered & the packing is exceptional!

The sundew packaging was very poorly done and most of the stems were bend or dead. I have only one stem on the plant and I'm hoping it will recover. I'd heard this complaint on line before but decided to take a chance. Sorry I did. The only positive thing I can say is that the order was processed and shipped super fast.

Great packaging!

Plants arrived a day or so later than expected (not the fault of the seller) but they were so well packaged I’m not worried! Larger than expected plants! Very very happy with my purchases!

Very nice and already feeding on gnats.

I love all my hungry babies

I have been ordering from this nursery for years and could not be happier. At this point I have an entire green house that has been filled up with all the plants I have purchased and always get excited when I can find a new one. I will without a doubt be ordering more in the future
