Nepenthes jamban or the Toilet Bowl Nepenthes, is know for its unique shape. "Jamban" means "toilet" in Indonesian. It is a species that stays relatively small with pitcher typcially under 4" (10 cm). Trap color can vary from yellow and somewhat green to orange-red. The opening is round and flat. The digestive fluid is quite thick, like maple syrup, which helps trap larger prey. It is native to the upper montane mossy forests in Northern Sumatra, where it grows terrestrially. It is a vigorous grower and produces numerous pitchers. It is quite good at catching large insects, such as: stink bugs, wasps and yellow jackets. It does well in a window and is a great house plant, that can be grown outdoors in the warm weather with a minimal transition period. It is a good as a houseplant or in the greenhouse.
Plants are shipped bare-root, wrapped in damp sphagnum moss. Photographs are representative of species, and not the specific plant shipped. Plants are young and small with juvenile traps.
