The traps of the Copper Top Pitcher Plant, Sarracenia flava cuprea express a distinctive bronze colored hood and upper trap, that can appear copper in full sun The rest of the leaf has a yellowish green to vivid yellow cast. The bronze color can darken by Summer. This is a naturally occurring variety of S. flava in the Atlantic Plain, particularly the Carolinas. It is often referred to as the 'copper top' form. S. flava cuprea grows well in wet bog soil. It has its best traps in Spring when they are considerably larger and sturdier. They fade by Summer and develop phyllodia (flat leaves) that persist through winter. The very large and showy flowers are yellow, and fragrant. They are one of the largest and most spectacular blooms within the Sarracenia. They generally bloom from March to May before the pitchers fully develop. It is a wonderful plant for the bog garden or collection, and will grow in northern zones with protection. Sarracenia flava was one of the first pitcher plants to be discovered by European naturalists in the 1600s.

My order came exactly as I requested it to be delivered. My plants where over the top healthy looking, they did come dormant with no pitchers so I can not wait to see them grow. Great quality.

Rather Small for Large Plant Purchase

I was a little disappointed that this pitcher and another I ordered as "large" only had two "buds" in the clump.

Arrived tall and vigorous and are growing!

The plants were very well packaged and arrived in a timely fashion. They already possessed well-formed pitchers and are growing quickly in my pseudo-swamp of sphagnum moss and material I gathered from a local bog. I am looking forward to their beautiful flowering.

My cuprea flower is zooming towards the sun!

Blown away by the flower growth of my flava cuprea that I've had in just a matter of a few days to weeks. Looking forward to when the trumpets begin to form and the flower opens up.
