Tawny Cotton grass, Eriophorum virginicum, is a medium size, perennial, bog sedge that develops showy, cottony tuffs of seedheads in the Fall. These "flowers" are tawny colored, a warm light, creamy tan, and are very pretty. They can be quite numerous and appear to float as a white fog over the bog. Plants form long, creeping rhizomes, and spread nicely through the bog garden, without crowding other plants. It prefers the open, wet ares of bogs and meadows. It is tolerant of shade. Spreads nicely from runners and seed. Water with rain/distilled water. Tawny Cotton grass adds nice color to the Fall Bog Garden. They grow well in and among Pitcher Plants.

Seed Packs are fresh harvested in Fall, and stored refrigerated. Seed count is approximate, but reliable.
Note: All seeds are produced from open pollination within our collection. Some cross pollination may occur, and seed offspring may or may not be true to mother plant, though not likely with this species. Growing bog plants from seeds is similar to growing carnivorous plants from seeds, and is best suited for the experienced and patient grower. See our webpage on Growing CPs from Seeds.
