Nepenthes barcelona is a recently discovered (2014)  species of the Ventricosa Complex. It is endemic to a single mountain in the Sierra Madre range growing in submontane forest. Initially, pitchers are red and stout, but they turn green with maturity. This is the opposite of most Nepenthes. It has long burrowing tendrils similar to N. sibuyanensis. N. barcelona is a vigorous grower and produces numerous pitchers. It is quite good at catching large insects, such as: stink bugs, wasps and yellow jackets.  It does well in a window and is a great house plant, that can be grown outdoors in the warm weather with a minimal transition period. It is a good as a houseplant or in the greenhouse.
