Ease to Grow: Easy
Dormancy: Required
Parental Native Range: Wet Pocosins of Southeastern North America
Zones: 6-8 (5-9)

Sarracenia x farnhamii hybrid has bright red, green and white pitchers with dominant areoles (windows). The traps are upright and of medium height. They are green at the base, but broad red veins dominate the tubes, giving the full trap an exciting, brightly colorful appearance. The hoods are broad and ruffled and the lip is thick and deep red. As cold weather approaches, the traps turn a suffused deep red or maroon. They grow divisions regularly, and form large full colonies. As with other S. leucophylla hybrids, it has a nice show of Spring pitchers, but a great show of vigorous Fall pitchers. S. x farnhamii prefers open, sunny, boggy conditions, and holds its color into the frost. The dark red flowers are fragrant, and bloom early in the Spring before new traps are fully emerged. This is an outstanding accent plant for the bog garden, and is very showy in large numbers. It is well-suited for the backyard bog garden north into Canada with winter protection. Sarracenia x farnhamii is a frequent, naturally occurring hybrid, S. leucophylla x rubra, or by its binomial name Sarracenia x readii. It was named in honor of Farnham.

Plants are shipped bare-root, wrapped in damp sphagnum moss. In it's dormant season, it will be shipped as a dormant rhizome with trimmed off pitchers. Photographs are representative of the hybrid, and not the specific plant shipped.

Height: 12" - 18"
Plant Type: Perennial, temperate
Soil: Lower Bog Mix or All-Purpose Mix
Light: Bright indoors, full sun to partial sun outdoors.
Use: Grows well in the bog garden, greenhouse and indoors. Excellent accent plant.

Great!

Arrived in fantastic condition along with all of the other items in my order, especially considering that USPS lost track of my package and delayed delivery an additional 2 days. I purchased 10 or so items and all were packaged wonderfully. The attached pictures are after about 6 weeks of growth.

Nice Sarracenia x farnhamii

Nice little Sarracenia x farnhamii. It arrived quickly, in good health. I had some questions about growing my sarracenia outdoors, and Colin answered quickly and gave me some great information and advice.
Unfortunately, a rabbit ripped up a few of my planters and damaged a number of my carnivorous plants, but the ones I got from Carnivorous Plant Nursery have bounced back and begun to thrive.
